Boobala Darling Wins a Cruise: Part 8 of 9 (a fictional story set in Brooklyn)

Execution Day: Bang You’re Dead!

The next morning, Boobala woke up a woman, the first day of a new life. She blushed as she remembered her first sexual encounter with Harry, her husband. She was a virgin and, though her wedding night was wild, she was uncomfortable and even painful. She smiled as she felt the warmth of Harry’s body next to her. Boobala sat up and stretched, enjoying the languid tug of her muscles when she suddenly cried out, “Oh my God.” A chill ran down her spine. Jumping out of bed, she ran like mad to the bathroom and took a quick shower. She dressed once more in her baggy clothes, combing her hair back into a ponytail. As a finishing touch to her homey look she donned her large black-rimmed glasses.

Boobala ran over to the bed and began to shake Harry. He muttered, rolled over and went back to sleep.

“Come on Harry, you have to wake up. We have to go to mum’s house and tell her we’re married,” her voice was high and neighing, piercing his ears as she continued to shake him over and over again.

Harry woke up from his deep sleep extremely upset, foul-mouthed. “Shut up bitch, I can’t stand your whiny voice. We’re only married for a day and you’re a nuisance. You remind me of your mother.”

Once again he saw her as a homebody. Shrugging in disgust, he said to himself, “My God, is this the crap I have to see and hear every day?” His tongue and throat felt like they were on fire and his head ached from the loss of color from the night before. He yelled, “Hey Boobala, since you’re near the fridge, bring me a Heineken beer.”

Opening the refrigerator door, he obediently retrieved the last bottle and said, “Harry, can you please hurry? It’s already 10:30.” Drinking his beer, he rolled his eyes at Boobala and yelled, “I heard you. ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡!!!!

Later, Boobala told Harry to wait outside in the hallway while she went to tell Mum the news. Mildred was sitting at the kitchen table waiting for her, her lips pursed in disapproval. Dad had already gone to work. That was a relief. She opened the door and quickly walked in, murmuring “…Hello mom.”

Mildred looked up at Boobala, who was standing with his back to the door. Her face was distorted as she was ready to reason with her daughter. She yelled at the top of her lungs, “Where have you been? You said you were going to Myrtle’s for dinner last night, and here it is 11:15 in the morning. I called Myrtle and she said you weren’t even there.” .Where were you? How dare you lie to me?”

Boobala’s stomach clenched at the sound of Mildred’s screaming voice. Shaking like a leaf, she weakly replied, “I got married, Mom.”

“What did you say? Married?? Who did you marry?” Boobala, scared to death, blurted out, “Harry Darling.”

“Harry Darling? The student who came here, who’s not a good bum? I knew it! I said I smelled like a skunk and you said it wasn’t your boyfriend?”

“I love him, mom,” Boobala yelled. “He is my husband.”

“Love ha ha, you’re barely eighteen, what do you know about love? Did it get you pregnant?”

“No mom, we never had sex.” She answered.

Enraged, Mildred quickly got up from the table and punched Boobala full force in the face, grabbing her by the ponytail and shaking her violently until she began to scream. As she continued to physically and verbally assault her, she screamed, “I risked my life for this to give birth? Come out, come out, you are no longer my daughter. You are dead to me. Don’t step foot again.” one foot in my house again. I’m going to get you out of my will. You say you’re married, then let that bum support you.”

Boobala was in utter shock and disbelief. He ran out the door crying and screaming hysterically, his hair completely in disarray. She dashed past Harry and continued down the stairs. Harry rubbed his nose with the flat of his hand, not knowing what else to do. After a few seconds, he ran after her. Neighbors started opening their doors to see what all the fuss was about.

The Elusive Dream: Catch Me If You Can

Mildred kept her word. That same day she called the lawyer and changed her will, leaving everything to her brother’s family. Boobala was devastated, her complaint knew no bounds. She was so mad because she was the rightful heir to her, not Uncle Marvin. She was the one with the magnificent head for business. Boobala said to herself over and over again, “Oh Mom, why did you do such a terrible thing to your only son?” When she told Harry that she had been disinherited due to her marriage, he was shocked. There was a long harassing interval where her mind needed time to decide what to do. As she slowly recovered from the shock, she began to realize that her plan had quickly backfired. She now had a wife with no inheritance. Angry, she would be gone for weeks. Boobala was alone, isolated from her relatives, always on the brink of despair, living from hand to hand. All the dreams and promises Harry made never materialized. He kept losing one job after another. They began to accumulate debts, which Harry was unable to pay. As a last resort, after he ended the lease on his apartment, they had to move in with Harry’s uncle, Jake.

With money becoming a monumental issue, Boobala had to find work. He was able to get a decent paying job thanks to his experience at his father’s clothing company. He liked the job and he liked the salary he earned. “Maybe now he can save up for that cruise I’ve always wanted.” she thought of herself. The more money she earned, the more she stole from Harry and the further she sailed into her dream. She was deep in the game, losing everything he had in his pocket.

Boobala regretted getting involved with him. His addictions to drinking and gambling had ruined a large part of his life. His sexless marriage had deteriorated into a contemptuous relationship of verbal and physical abuse.
