Book Review – "Amazing" by Josh Hamilton

Josh Hamilton is a true success story. He’s had it all, hit rock bottom, and now he’s really back at the top of the mountain. As a child, he became interested in baseball at a very young age, and was so good at the game that he was placed in much older leagues before he was ten years old. He had such a strong arm and such a powerful swing that he was thought to be a danger to boys his age who played minor league baseball with.

As he grew up, he maintained the strong morals that his parents instilled in him when he was still a child. They taught her that family is the most important thing in life and she enjoyed staying home on nights when her friends were risking trouble. He entered high school and immediately began to realize that he had major league potential and made it his goal to reach the major leagues. His dreams came true when he graduated from high school and was signed number one in the Major League Baseball draft, accepting an offer and a signing bonus of more than $ 4 million.

Hamilton’s transition to stardom and becoming a man was awkward. His parents followed him through the minor leagues to make sure he got into trouble and some of his teammates and coaches found this strange. He was protected his entire life, and now at his job, they were still protecting him.

When his parents finally released him, Hamilton began to exhibit questionable behavior. He got more than a dozen tattoos in a short time and began experimenting with drugs on the men who gave him tattoos. Hamilton hit a slippery slope and started using more and more drugs. It was partly the feeling of the drugs, but the drugs also took her mind off the back pain she was experiencing from a car accident.

Josh Hamilton finally started hanging out with the wrong crowds. He began to become paranoid about buying drugs and spending huge sums of money to gain access to hard drugs. He passed out in random trailers and passed out on many occasions due to the large amount of drugs he was using, but he always had the love of family and the natural talent in baseball to bring him back into the light.

He finally went to his grandmother’s house in the middle of the night, and she was the one responsible for changing his life. He constantly told him that one day he would play baseball again with reassuring confidence. She gave him all the food she could handle and gave him a place to sleep. Josh quickly gained weight and began to think that a good chance of returning to baseball was; but he had no idea who would want to give a frazzled junkie another chance.

Hamilton found his answer in a religious baseball group that forced him to clean-up during the day to gain ground and practice the batting cage at night. He found he still had an incredible swing and with the weight training he was back in top shape in no time.

Josh knew the right people in the right places at the right time, and the Cincinnati Red Major League Baseball organization called him. He made an immediate impact, but was eventually traded to the Texas Rangers. While he was in the Ranger organization, he started starting all the games and made the All-Star Team. He showed he had his swing all the time; He just needed a push in the right direction to realize his true potential.

One thing that can be learned from Beyond Belief is that family is the most important thing a person can have. Sometimes you may not notice it, but it is easy to get lost in the world without family and the assurance that someone is there for you. Fortunately for Josh Hamilton, his parents and wife accompanied him throughout his addiction and recovery process. His wife has proven to be an extraordinary woman and his grandmother showed a strength that no one else could. This autobiography is an excellent read whether you like baseball or not. The Hamilton story is an amazing success story that makes you appreciate family and lead a healthy life. This book has an easy rating of 5 out of 5.
