Critical thinking towards time management

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all have a credit card that we could use to buy a few or several more hours into our day? If there was such a place, we’d all be hanging out in that row. I always make a joke, if only I could clone myself, “be real, right?” There are 2 resources to spend in this world and that is time and money. Money buys us time and time buys us money. Every human being is given the exact number of hours in a day. 24 hours, not 1 hour more or less. This makes it critical that we budget our time very well. I’m learning a lot from studying experts who have mastered time management and discovered that professional network marketers apply critical thinking toward their time and every activity they do. After all, “time” really is our most valuable asset!

Becoming a critical thinker of “time” can be fun and really interesting. You end up learning a lot about yourself in this process of getting to the details of your life. This is healthy and helps us delve into the truth of what is fruitful in our life and what is robbing our divine purpose. My friend and mentor taught me to journal the specifics of my day. She recommended a simple composition notebook as a great way to keep track of all her activity throughout the day. Every detail is important to the record. It’s important to make a list of every activity you participate in, with the exact time you spent doing that particular task. This will make us aware of how long we are taking to achieve our goal. Later we can review what we are spending our time on, tracking exactly where our time is being spent. This was a great revelation for me. This is a valuable practice for tax purposes, just in case of an audit. As we continue to grow, we will apply critical thinking to every area of our lives. Where do I spend my time? Do I spend most of my time on income-generating activities? If not, it’s time to Plan, Do, Check and Adjust.

There are 2 types of people in the world, those who are critical thinkers when it comes to their “time” and those who blow the wind, we’ll call them “Joe Blow”. The critical thinker will apply a critical mind to all the details of life and business. For example, when sending emails, the critical thinker will email a fellow associate to schedule a coaching call. In the email, the subject line will read “Advice Call Request.” This will immediately put me on the leader’s high priority list. The critical thinker will offer 3 different times that they will be available (respecting that leader’s extremely busy schedule) so that options are available. On the other hand, Joe Blow will write a one-paragraph email without the proper options, so time will be wasted asking for more details or clarification. If I wasted 3 minutes for every email I sent, this time could add up to a huge number of lost and wasted hours over a one year period. That is time lost with your husband, your children, your grandchildren and the people you love most. We cannot take back a single moment, so being a critical thinker towards “time” is essential for all professional Networkers.

One valuable tip I can give you is to go through your emails and sort through all the emails that are not serving your purpose and plan. Clean the house daily and do not allow clutter to take up space, if it does not bear fruit, do not let it enter. Check and remove anything that is a waste of time first. This will get your 150 new emails a day down to 13 emails of importance very quickly. Put all your emphasis on the material that means the most to you now and is primarily related to money-making activities. When you decide to check and open your emails, be sure to give yourself plenty of time, we know Joe Blow is always in a hurry!

The timers work great when I use them. The timer on my stove is always effective, it’s loud and annoying, it works great! I’ve found that putting reminders on my cell phone is another great way to stay connected and focused. No matter where we are, we are almost always near a cell phone. It helps to have a clock right in front of you, a great clock! I use Microsoft Outlook, it works great for me and I love the reminders. I have many friends who use Google Calendar, check them out and choose the one that suits you best.

Always make sure you have a list of all your upline leaders and team leaders in a conspicuous place near your work area. It is good to pay attention to the routines of those you are working with. If you know that “Bob” is on a conference call at 3 pm ET, you would never consider asking if Bob would be available for a 3-way conference during that time period. If there are conference call numbers you need, get them in print and near you too. This will save you 3 minutes here, 7 minutes there, taking time to look up phone numbers and other necessary information. If you are building businesses all over the world, it is very helpful to have a special location where you have ALL country code numbers easily accessible.

Time management is key to living a successful life. It allows us the ability to live out our dreams and our burning desires. It opens up a lifestyle of choices and the ability to enjoy, endure and care for what we have been given.
