Feng Shui Office Fitting Out

Feng Shui (literally translated as “wind – water”) is a Chinese system of geomancy that is said to use the laws of heaven and earth to help receive positive Qi.

Fen Shui is widely practiced in Far Eastern culture and dates back to 4000 BC. It is a formal study that forms part of the courses taken by students who wish to pursue careers in architecture and interior design. Armed with a Bagua and compass, a Feng Shui practitioner will optimize and enhance the flow of Qi.

Fengu Shui has seen significant adoption in the west, is a common consideration made by many interested in new age and alternative thinking during home and office design and has been promoted by public figures such as Donald Trump, who recently he had hired a Feng Shui Master to analyze the auspiciousness of the Trump Towers.

Qi is best defined as a mobile life force and Feng Shui infers “Qi that crinkles in the wind and scatters, but is held back when it meets water.” It could also be described as best practice in design to attract and retain positive energy, while ensuring harmony.

Insightful tips are pointed out, as well as ‘do’s and don’ts’ on Feng Shui office furnishing. Feng Shui states that color is an important attribute to optimize positive energy:

Red represents one’s aggressiveness in business;

Orange represents cooperation and collaboration and strengthens focus and purpose;

Yellow represents clear thinking and installs warmth and friendship;

The blue and green colors account for reflection and infer peace and confidence;

Purple can influence healing of the body and mind and influences creativity;

White defines confidence and represents dignity and poise;

Black promotes power, money, income, and emotional power;

Feng Shui Do’s (in relation to Office Fit Outs):

DO Take charge by positioning your desk so that it faces doors or entrances; secure support with a wall at your back and toggle support by placing a ground item against your back;

Place an oxygen-generating money plant in a red pot on the east side of your desk to encourage good health or in the southeast for wealth;

DO make the entrance to your office inviting as you will receive positive Qi;

You MUST place a peacekeeping symbol (such as a rooster) in the middle of the office to discourage backstabbing and encourage harmony;

NEVER sit with your back to the door and, if necessary, place a mirror on your desk so you can see those approaching and try to avoid looking towards stairwells, elevators, storage rooms or bathrooms that are thought to be distracting;

NEVER use a cactus or sharp, spiky plants as they generate fierce Qi, and do not leave dead decorative flowers or stale water as these may have a negative effect on wealth;

DON’T work in a cluttered space and don’t keep old items that harbor bad memories – all objects have energy and represent your past, present and future business, so things should be archived to encourage success;

DO NOT let broken equipment be visible, a leaky faucet can symbolize a slow and steady drain on resources, the same goes for mops and brooms that can ‘wash away’ success;

These simple do’s and don’ts are said to help the flow of positive Qi in the office to establish a better workspace and more profitable business. Feng Shui can also improve the mental and physical health of your workforce.
