Time to create the perfect work from home office setup – Part 1

For many people, the mere thought of tedious home office setup can be boring. Objective, relax. Setting up your home office can be an enjoyable experience. This is a time to personalize, or accessorize, your home office just the way you like it. Make it comfortable, functional and all about you.

No longer is your office setup constrained to an empty corner of your home or your basement (which is where my home office is, by the way…) If you have more space to put up a working home office, would you? why not use it? .

There are some necessities that are part of any good home office, and yours should be no different. Here’s a list of must-have office equipment and furniture you’ll need to create the perfect office setup for working from home.

Computer – I’m sure you’ve guessed it. Since using a computer for entertainment is very different from using one for business, there are a few considerations to keep in mind.

First of all, you must have a separate computer for the company than the one you have delegated as the “family” computer. If you can’t afford a separate computer right now, you need to set up as a new user on your old computer, complete with password. This is because, as a work-from-home professional, you will have access to a lot of private information. Depending on the business model you choose, you could have access to credit card numbers, addresses, and even social security numbers. This private information can be compromised when others use the same computer.

Second, your computer needs to have a lot of memory and free space, trust me. While doing research on the internet, I have a habit of saving everything. Then I make special folders on my desk to catalog my articles, blogs, web pages, etc. When you’re a professional working from home, you need to have as much reference material at your fingertips as you can.

Copier/Fax – A copier is something I have found indispensable in my own home office setup. If you’re short on space, buy an all-in-one system. This will allow you to fax, copy, scan and print all in one unit.

With the new technology now, there are also many companies that offer virtual office solutions. For a monthly fee, usually $20 to $40, you can have your own virtual fax number, phone number, and even 1-800#. This allows you to have office/fax services, without having an actual fax machine.
