White Album 2 – Ahhh The Love Triangles (Anime Review)

I’ve been smoothing over this one for a couple of weeks now as the ending left me in a loop, but now I think I’m done. White album 2; As the name suggests, this is technically a sequel, but not really. The only connection this makes to White Album is the mention of the main character as a famous artist and the singing of the song. Other than that, they are completely independent.

Haruki is our main boy; he maintains excellent grades and can always be seen helping others, especially the student council, although he is no longer a part of it. He is also the backup guitarist for the light music club, which is about to disband now that the only members are him and the lead guitarist, Iizuka. Haruki usually practices his … playing less than optimal guitar after the club is over, when he has the space to himself. Every now and then he receives a gift from the next room, a mysterious and talented pianist plays in harmony on his guitar, which puts him at ease.

Although he doesn’t know who this person is, he finds a sense of relief every time they play together. One day, a third joins them; from the ceiling, a beautiful voice begins to sing along with your touch. Haruki goes to the roof to find Setsuna; a beautiful girl at his school whom he had met a while before. Finally, Haruki discovers that the mysterious student next door is Touma, a lazy classmate. After convincing them a bit, the two agree to join the light music club and play with Haruki.

So, our love triangle begins! Well actually, we found out that the love for this triangle starts long, long before this, but still. Basically, we have two girls who are obviously in love with Haruki. Of course, Haruki has a crush on one of them, but he’s not that daring about it, which causes mistakes. Ahhh, high school drama.

The anime takes us on a rollercoaster ride of fun and sadness; of course along the way we got to hear some amazing music. However, I feel like the three of them would have been better if they were still friends. Of course that’s not a good story and when you spend so much time with others these things tend to happen.

I will say that a particular relationship forms quite early. Once it is formed, it is immediately apparent that it was a mistake. However, neither is willing to admit it. Iisuka, Haruki’s friend, I feel like she touches the voice of what should be done, in the final stretch. She wants Haruki to take the safe root, not her the girl he’s with. Unfortunately, that’s not the way things end.

Overall I would say this was a pretty good music / romance / part of life show. I loved it. Also, not every day one of these anime shows has a relationship that gets to the point where the two of them become intimate, that was a surprise. However, harden your hearts for the end. It will leave you screaming from the scream as the main character does all sorts of weird and stupid things.

But … I guess that’s what makes love great.
