A candle for softer, smoother skin

If you notice patches of dry skin on your body, or see age spots and wrinkles, have no fear because now you can fight the premature signs of aging without going under the knife. All you need for softer, smoother skin is one candle. No, you don’t need a magic or miracle candle. All you need is a simple moisturizing candle.

These candles are just like regular store bought candles. The difference between moisturizing candles and regular candles lies in the wax used for the body of the candle. Standard candles are made from paraffin or palm wax, while moisturizing candle wax is primarily made up of cosmetic-grade soybean oil mixed with another additive. Shea butter and vitamin E are sometimes included in the soybean oil blend. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties and contains fatty acids that help retain moisture and elasticity in the skin. Vitamin E contains antioxidants that are vital in protecting skin cells from the sun’s UV rays and pollution. Soybean Oil, Shea Butter and Vitamin E help keep skin softer and smoother.

Moisturizing candles are used just like regular candles, except they don’t need a lot of heat to melt. Soybean oil wax base melts 2 degrees hotter than normal body temperature. To use them, simply light the wick and allow the wax to melt until a puddle of oil forms. Dip your fingers into the pool of melted oil, being careful not to burn yourself. The oil can then be spread on the skin. Moisturizing candles can be used to help heal burns, sores and scars, hydrate cracked heels, cuticles and nourish the skin on the hands, face and body. Daily use would diminish wrinkles and reduce the appearance of age spots.

Like regular candles, they can be scented or unscented. Adding scent oils to the candle wax mixture will not diminish the moisturizing properties of the soybean oil wax. It can even enhance the ‘healing’ process because, not only will your skin be rejuvenated by the creamy oil blend, but your body will relax as your senses absorb the soothing aroma emitted by the burning candle.

Unlike standard candles that sell themselves, usually wrapped in plastic or paper, moisturizing candles often come in small glass jars or bottles. The container serves as a decorative hearth for the solid candle and as a container to hold the wax/soybean oil when the candle is melted.

Moisturizing candles are a fast, effective, economical, healthy and natural way to care for dry and dehydrated skin. However, despite the benefits, these candles must be used with care. Hot wax can burn the skin or, in some cases, aggravate a pre-existing skin condition. To be safe, don’t apply moisturizing candle oil to open wounds, and it may be best to check with your doctor before embarking on a new skin regimen.

Moisturizing candles would make an ideal personal or corporate gift and can be purchased individually, in packs or in bulk if they are to be used as corporate gifts.
