Basketball Dribbling Tips and Drills

There are all kinds of dribbling drills but what you really want to focus on depends on what level you are at and what you want to improve on, but to be a good ball handler you have to master all these different drills.

If you want to be able to make a person look stupid, master these exercises. By mastering them. Do them in a way that you’re turning the ball over, otherwise you’re not stretching yourself out and making yourself a better dribbler.

speed of construction

1. Drop the ball between the legs, drop it and catch it with the hand on the other side of the body. It can be done with the arms staggered or together.

2. Claps behind the head and knees: Place the ball behind the knees of the head, drop it, clap it in front of your body, and then catch it.

3. Quick Touches: Touch a basketball between your outstretched hands as fast as you can.

4. Throw It Through: Throw the basketball through your open, extended legs as hard as you can.

Fingertip control

1. One and Two Handed Machine Gun – Hit the ball against the ground as fast as you can.

2. Finger be finger machine gun: Tap basketball finger to finger as fast as you can.

3. One-handed tap around leg: Use one hand to tap circles around the leg.

4. Touch a figure 8 standing up and with one knee touch the ball making a figure 8 around your legs.

5. Lie down: Touch the ball from any position with any movement while lying down. Be creative!

Cupping

1. Cup it-dribble the ball carrying it as far as you can legally.

2. Hit and Dunk: Dribble the ball as hard as you can then go down and dribble with touches.

3. Swing the bag and hit the ball from hand to hand in a pendulum motion and go as high as you can.

4. Around the leg: 1 hand, 2 bounces/2 hands, 2 bounces/1 hand, 1 bounce/2 hands and 1 bounce.

1. Ball Slap – Hit the ball as hard as you can.

2. Banana – Squeeze the ball hand to hand with your arms extended above your head.

3. Around the head: Pass the ball from hand to hand around your head.

4. Pass around the ball backwards from hand to hand around your torso.

5. Around the legs: Pass the ball from hand to hand around the legs.

6. Around the head, back and legs. -Pass the ball from hand to hand around the head, then backwards, then down the legs.

7. Around One Leg Pass the ball from hand to hand around one leg at a time.

1. Dribble back and forth low in low V.

2. Tall Drips big and wide from one side to the other.

3. Low to High V- start low then go high going back and forth.

4. Between the legs: Simply dribble between the legs.

5. Hit the Crossing: Do a dribble and then cross. Do it back and forth.

6. Start the dribble back from side to side behind the back. You can also add a pound.

Moving

1. Skipper-dribble between the legs while jumping on the spot

2. Pass the ball between your legs as you walk

3. Walking-dribbling through the legs while walking

4. Run and Kill: Push the ball up and stop it and dribble low.

1. Dribble high and low both balls at the same time and alternate high and then low.

2. One High, One Low: Bounce one ball high and the other low.

3. Change Hands – Change dribbling hands.

4. Change Balls: Change the balls you are dribbling with.

5. Figure 8: Dribble the balls in a figure 8 around your legs chasing or replacing each other.

6. Front, Back: Dribble a ball in front of you and one behind you, switching hands at the same time.

7. V’s: Dribble each ball in a v shape in front of you.

1. Walk and jog while dribbling the balls in the same alternating rhythm.

2. All game situations move, but with both balls.

tennis ball exercises

You can do any of these exercises with a tennis ball in the other hand. So while you are dribbling, throw the tennis ball and catch it in the air. If you’re crossing, just switch hands with the tennis ball as well. This exercise really stretches you out and improves your performance immensely.

other tips

Be sure to do these stretching exercises. Don’t just go through the motions. Become a ball handler who can control the game and see the pitch by making your dribbling second nature.
