Can I Cancel an IRCTC Rail Ticket?

IRCTC Rail Ticket

If you have purchased a ticket and found out that you can’t make the trip, you may be wondering if you should cancel your trip. Fortunately, if you’re able to cancel your trip within the stipulated time period, you can. However, you’ll need to follow a few rules. Firstly, you need to cancel the ticket as early as possible, at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. If you fail to do this, you’ll have to pay a cancellation fee of Rs 60 plus GST for each passenger.

To make a ticket cancellation request, you need to go to the official website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. You’ll need the PNR number of the train you’re traveling on and the cancellation date. Once you enter these details, you’ll get a confirmation message and an email.

The cancellation policy at IRCTC is fairly strict when it comes to cancellation fees. Depending on the coach, you’ll have to pay either 25% or 50% of the fare if you cancel within 48 hours of the scheduled departure date. Generally, you’ll be able to cancel a ticket up to twelve hours prior to the scheduled departure date, but the more advance notice you have, the greater the chance of a refund.

If you have a ticket that’s been issued to someone else, you can claim a refund for that seat. If your ticket has been mutilated, torn, or lost, you can submit a TDR online to get a refund. You’ll have to provide the certificate to IRCTC, and you can track your refund status online.

You can also cancel an e-ticket if you’re not able to make it to the train. Those with e-tickets can cancel the trip and receive a full refund of the fare if they cancel their tickets online before thirty minutes before the scheduled departure time. The same rules apply to e-tickets purchased through the general or Tatkal quota.

Another option for rescheduling your travel is to cancel your counter ticket. The IRCTC offers a number of cancellation options, but most passengers aren’t able to cancel their reservations due to lack of time. In that case, you should submit your TDR to IRCTC, and if you are unable to travel on the next day, you’ll receive a full refund.

If you have already purchased your ticket, the refund policy is similar to the one in effect for RAC tickets. The only exception is that the RAC ticket cannot be cancelled if the booking is not made more than 30 minutes before departure. The refund will be credited to your account after deducting the cancellation fee. If your cancellation is within four hours of departure, you can cancel your ticket online. If you’re on a waiting list, you can cancel your waitlist ticket 30 minutes before departure.
