Description and history of the Chinese crested dog breed

Description: There are two varieties within the Chinese Crested Dog breed. One is a powder puff, the other hairless. With the hairless variety, we see that it has hair on the legs, head, and tail, but no hair on the rest. While the powder puff has a long, soft layer all over it. Both types, hairless and powdery, can be born in the same litter. The powder puff has a double layer, while the hairless one does not because it has no hair.

The Chinese Crested Dog breed can have a solid color or spotted coat and skin. This breed has a wedge-shaped head when viewed from above. The muzzle tapers nicely into the cheeks, and they have almond-shaped eyes, and the rim of the eyes will match the color of the dog’s coat. His ears are erect and large to the eye. The look of the tassel varies depending on how it is arranged. This breed weighs up to 10 pounds.

History: This dog is native to Africa, and here they were called African Hairless Terriers. They were brought aboard ships by the Chinese as vermin hunters, and this is where they got their name.
