Description: The Miniature Schnauzer is a small dog, 12 to 14 inches tall and 10 to 15 pounds in weight. This dog is small but has a stocky build. The Miniature Schnauzer’s ears are set high on the head and are cropped to points in countries that allow it. When left naturally, the ears are small and V-shaped, folding close to the head. Her legs are straight, with pretty little feet. The tail is docked, in countries that allow it, and can be seen on the dorsal line of the dog. This is a double-coated breed with a wiry outer coat and a soft undercoat. The coat is trimmed to give the appearance of a bushy beard, mustache, and eyebrows. The coat colors are; salt and pepper, black and silver, black and white. The life expectancy of this breed is about 15 years.

History: This breed comes from Germany, around the turn of the century. Smooth-coated Miniature Schnauzers and Coarse-coated Schnauzers can appear in the same litters. This led to the decision to stop registering three generations of thick-haired Schnauzer coats. This quickly helps to classify and establish breed types. From there, Standard Schnauzers, Affenpinschers, and possibly the Poodle were used in the gene pool. This dog was used as a vermin exterminator, but today it is mainly a companion dog. Some of their talents include tracking, hunting, guarding, performing tricks, and competitive obedience.
