Learn how to use body scrubs to remove dead skin cells and improve skin health

Exfoliation involves the use of a body scrub to remove dead skin cells that make skin look rough, wrinkled, dry, and patchy.

How to use scrubs to exfoliate skin (instructions)

  1. Select an exfoliant that includes healthy ingredients

  2. Take a bath or shower first (Yes, you can use soap before applying the scrub).

  3. Then, after bath or shower, start the Exfoliation Process

  4. Make sure your entire body where the Scrub is applied is wet with water.

  5. Stand away from the water to apply the scrub. Be careful not to slip, body scrubs contain oil and are slippery. (A non-slip surface is needed when getting in and out of the shower or bathtub.)

  6. Take two tablespoons of the scrub and rub it into your skin in circular motions. It should feel good on the skin and not cause pain. Use the same pressure you would use to apply lotion to a baby’s body. Keep it soft.

  7. After rubbing the scrub all over your skin, step on the water and gently rinse the scrub off leaving the oil behind. Note: Only a high-quality body scrub leaves behind an oil that really adheres to the skin. Don’t use a washcloth, just use your hands as you wipe off the scrub (salt).

  8. After removing all the sand (from salt) from the body, turn off the water.

  9. Dry the body with a towel; do not rub skin. You must let the oils penetrate your skin.

  10. Enjoy your new skin!

  11. Repeat the process twice a week for smooth, exfoliated skin.

How does the scrub benefit the skin it is on?

  1. Unclogs pores by removing dirt and grime.

  2. Rejuvenates the skin by repairing it

  3. Delays the process of “skin aging”

  4. Makes your skin better able to retain moisture because it removes dead skin cells that lock in moisture

  5. softens the skin

  6. Promotes blemish-free skin

  7. Promotes skin elasticity

Finally, choose an exfoliant that includes healthy and natural ingredients that provide nutrients and antioxidants to the skin. First, look at all the scrubs of interest and take a close look at the ingredients, size, cost, place of origin, and any associated health benefits. When looking at a body scrub, check the ingredients and determine if those are the ingredients your skin needs. Look up ingredients and learn about product ingredients, associated risks, and health benefits. The FDA is working diligently to keep consumers informed about the risks associated with some ingredients.
