Microwave s’mores? Bet! A modern twist brings a fireside treat home

Just when I thought it was safe to break out my size 6 jeans, I found a maker of Microwave S’mores. S’mores, at home, without flaming marshmallows flying through the air and landing on hapless siblings? Happiness itself! Back are the jeans…

Now, I was both a Girl Scout and a member of a camping family, so I love S’mores. I’ve eaten my way through a forest of graham crackers (or the lazy alternative – Fudge Grahams), a river of chocolate, and cute marshmallow clouds, and the trend continues with my own daughter loving them. But we don’t camp too often, nor do we have many cozy fires in Houston, so the microwave is the best option.

Unfortunately, past experiences have been, while comical, not terribly successful. Have you ever microwaved a marshmallow? They quickly expand to alarming proportions. Funny, well… yes. Driver of successful microwave S’mores? Definitely not.

Then, a strange device appears with… arms… and, of all things, a water tank (are we going to boil the marshmallow?). Reminds me of a distant cousin of Mr. Potatohead. But, humor and criticism aside, if s’mores are on his (or his kids’) list of must-have treats, the Microwave S’mores Maker really works.

I mentioned earlier that marshmallows grow quickly in the microwave. The weird parts of this device combat this tendency and actually make microwaved S’mores work. The water creates moisture so the marshmallow doesn’t dry out and become rubbery and the arms keep the marshmallow from expanding too much.

This item definitely passed my (and my 9 year old son’s) test. If you have kids, or are still a kid, and have a little extra storage space, Progressive’s Microwave S’Mores Maker is a fun and inexpensive addition to your kitchen’s treat makers.
