Annecy is a territory in the Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France. It is located at the northern end of Lake Annecy (Lac d’Annecy), which is located 35 kilometers south of Geneva.

The city of Annecy is surrounded by mountains. These mountains are Le Mont Verier, Le Semnoz, La Tournette and Parmelan. The city of Annecy is the site of the second round of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) talks in 1949.

Annecy as the venue for the Tour de France

Annecy hosted the 18th round of the Tour de France. It was a start/finish point of an individual time trial around Lake Annecy. It was announced as one of the three host cities for the 2018 Winter Olympics along with Munich in Germany and Pyeongchang in South Korea. Annecy will be the fourth French city to host the Winter Olympics after Chamonix 1924), Grenoble (1968) and Albertville (1992).
