Training your Pit Bull Terrier dog in a cage

Before cage training your Pit Bull puppy, you will need to purchase a cage. There are many types and variations of boxes available for purchase. It is important to choose the type of cage that best suits the needs of both you and your puppy.

You should also take into account the size of your dog now and how big it can be when fully grown to avoid having to buy more than one box. It is also important to remember that the cage will be its own individual space, and you want it to be as comfortable as possible for your Pit Bull to enjoy his time there.

Since the puppy will spend a lot of time in his cage, you should put several of his favorite toys and treats in the cage for him. Keep in mind that any toy you buy must be large enough that the dog cannot swallow it, to avoid injury to your pet. Having chew toys will not only give the dog something to chew on that it cannot destroy, but it will also help prevent boredom while in the crate.

Due to the strength of the Pit Bull, it is important to buy sturdy toys that are made to last. They tend to like Kong toys a lot, and they can fill up on treats, which will generally keep you interested for at least a couple of hours, or until you get all the goodies. You can also buy bones and toys that are made especially for Pit Bulls, they are harder and generally safer for them than normal toys and bones. Regular bones, such as rawhide bones, can be dangerous for pit bulls, because they are strong enough to chew on pieces of bone and lodge them in their digestive tract.

If your Pit Bull will be spending more than two hours in the cage, it is a good idea to equip him with a bottle of water in case he is thirsty. Many pet stores sell the same type of water bottles that are used for hamsters or gerbils, only in larger sizes. These tend to work well in the Pit Bull box.

You should also put some type of bedding in the cage to help your Pit Bull puppy feel more comfortable. Old towels or soft blankets tend to serve this purpose very well. Occasionally Pit Bull puppies will chew on your bedding, if this happens be sure to remove all pieces so the puppy doesn’t swallow them. If the puppy gets his bedding wet, simply remove it until he stops using his cage as a bathroom, then replace it.

Since the cage is your Pit Bull’s private space, it is important not to allow children or visitors to play with him while he is in his cage. You should leave him alone to play or rest as he wants. If someone wants to play with it, they must first take it out of its box. You want your Pit to like being in his cage and to feel comfortable spending time there.
