Although in Rome you can find accommodation for 12,- euros per night you will have to live with 12 other people in the same room. Surely you can easily imagine the probability that just one of these fellow travelers is either snoring or waking you up by walking into the room totally drunk at 5am. From my own experience, there is good reason to believe that this lower level of hostel is not to everyone’s liking. You usually start looking for bed and breakfasts or cheap hotels near the city center to avoid noise and gain some privacy.

Having said that, it is sometimes taught to find a vacant room in Rome for that kind of price, and on top of that, a good, clean, well-staffed b&b or even a cheap hotel, if you start looking early enough, there are certainly options. There are a multitude of websites on the internet that list cheap hotels, pensions, b&bs, apartments and guest houses, but the sites we recommend have been searching for the best cheap places in “bella Roma” since 2004.

Rome is a place of myth, history, history and Fellini. Rome is a beautiful city where you will have a great time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it is possible to get an overview of the city in one sitting. Rome is indeed a beautiful city worth visiting and more importantly if you have the right shoes you can do almost all the sights on foot. That’s a gigantic advantage over bigger cities like Paris or New York, since the subway doesn’t run as frequently either. There are only two metro lines in Rome, A and B. Why? Rates can drop by 100%. So a 4-star hotel room, for example, might cost only 70 euros instead of 125 euros. Most of the hotel staff are even more welcoming and friendly at this time, as you may have half the hotel lounge to yourself.
