Biking along the North Carolina coast

This 114-mile bike route is one of the best to take during the spring or summer months, when there’s a cool breeze and warm air enveloping you as you ride. You travel along NC 12 and follow the outer shores of North Carolina. You will travel along the highway with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Intercoastal Waterway on the other side. A bike may be the best way to go while driving around here due to the strong winds off the ocean. Be careful during the windier parts of the month, but the views are breathtaking and spectacular no matter what time of year you’d like to take part in this trip.

There are many tourist attractions to stop and take a break or have a bite to eat. If you want to stay a while during your trip, you can bring your camping equipment. There are many campsites that allow tents or for you to sleep under the stars. You can pull off the road and walk on the beach if you want to enjoy the weather and the water. You can shop on the islands and also enjoy award winning dinners and lunches.

There are very few and far between service stations on the road to get to Avon. You can even get high gas prices along the route if your choice of gas is premium. If you choose to go north to Kitty Hawk, NC. then you will find museums and a park dedicated to the Wright brothers that are worth visiting during the trip. Once you reach this point, you can turn around, allowing you to return to where you came from during the initial part of the journey.
