Resources From Physiotherapy East Sheen

Physiotherapy helps people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercises, manual therapy, education and advice (The Chartered Society of Physiotherapist). Some problems improve quickly, others take more time to resolve and some have to be managed as they are a long term condition. Our aim is to help you manage your problem, improve your quality of life and prevent recurrence of your symptoms.

Our first appointment lasts 1 hour and the physiotherapist will go through your medical history and carry out a full musculoskeletal assessment, this includes palpating your muscles and joints as well as looking at how you move in your normal daily activities and sport. We also spend time explaining your problem and how Physiotherapy East Sheen can help and explain your treatment plan.

A good physiotherapist will create specific rehabilitation programmes to improve your symptoms and to prevent recurrence. This may include specific massage, electrotherapy (ultrasound, interferential) acupuncture and manipulation along with home exercises and rehabilitation.

We believe that the best treatment is when patients are involved in making decisions about their care, they are more likely to be successful in achieving their goals. During your sessions we will encourage you to ask questions and discuss your progress.

Our latest eResource focuses on the key topic of racism in the physiotherapy profession. It highlights the importance of recognizing that racism not only manifests as discrimination or prejudice at the personally mediated level but also in deeply rooted structural and systemic inequities such as institutional racism. Having a greater diversity of racialized individuals in leadership positions within the profession and providing education about racism to all PTs is one important step towards mitigating and unwinding the workings of institutional racism and improving patient outcomes.
