Street children, their vulnerability and sustainability

Street children are those who are hopeless, frustrated and homeless and who spend their lives erratically, here and there, with no particular whereabouts. They do not have fundamental rights such as food, housing and clothing to survive on Earth. Somehow they manage their lives based on the kindness of people. They live up to date. They go through life aimlessly like a ship without radar. They have no demands for education and health services due to their powerlessness in view of their non-particular identity from society.

Street children have no idea of their future. They don’t have any particular job. They are generally found next to slums, rivers, markets, train stations and around airports. Sometimes they are found in the middle of the village begging and asking for food or money, sometimes in the name of god or sometimes expressing their sorrowful attitude due to their physical disability. They are found sleeping at night on the corner of the road in miserable conditions. Sometimes they are found crying to get on the bus begging from person to person, if people are kind, they can give some money. They do their best to somehow survive on Earth. Sometimes they get into an accident while moving around the streets. They don’t know the traffic rules even if they don’t go through the zebra crossing. For this reason, people occasionally find them badly injured while driving on the roads. On many occasions they are found crying and screaming because of pain in their physical organs. The law enforcement agency sometimes picks them up in their vans and leaves their bodies at medical centers. Since street children do not have the ability to pay doctors’ fees, they are ignored by doctors. And don’t take care of them by giving them the necessary help. Such street children emanate as motherless and orphaned children. On many occasions, the original parents abandon them due to lack of sufficient resources to feed and raise them. Many religious minded people can sometimes take them to an orphanage or any missionary rehabilitation center. Here, street children are raised, raised, and are considered citizens of the nation. This happens in rare cases. For the most part, street children are defenseless and lead a very distorted life. Sometimes, they are found stealing goods from shops, markets, and even from people’s homes. Sometimes they are found hiding from the police, sometimes they are found arrested and sentenced to prison. In this way they spend their lives in prison. In real life situations, if they are captured by civilians, they are immorally tortured mentally and physically. Even if they are found pickpocketing or stealing mobile phones or wristwatches, they are caught by agitated people and mercilessly beaten. Consequently, if they are found alive, they are sent to the local police station to be prosecuted for theft and pickpocketing. Their lives at night are very heartbreaking as they have no shelter to sleep at night; they have to face the rains and any natural disaster without getting any means of subsistence.

Street children must be given rehabilitation as they can be treated as the future backbone of the nation. In this regard, the society and the government should step forward to provide the necessary means and ways for them to raise their heads to the light of day in a healthy life of the society. The government should take steps to solve them by providing them with food, shelter and clothing. Not only that, they must provide support for education and healthcare. The government may also make plans to establish rehabilitation centers in different divisions, districts, and other high-level sectors. A monitoring cell should be established to identify the number of street children. Street children can be identified by assigning them an index number. The respective centers must specify their fundamental needs such as food, housing and clothing and other needs such as education and health services; this will be dealt with on behalf of the states parties that will allocate funds for this purpose. Rehabilitation centers need to provide logistical support so that street children can raise their heads like other good citizens of the country. We are talking about street children lying here and there. They are being mentally tortured and physically injured every time by people who find them involved in socially immoral activities. Even the government can set up reimbursement centers to correct their inconveniences in their lives. If we look around the world, we will find that there are an unlimited number of rehabilitation institutes and centers where street children develop mentally and physically. In such institutes the character formation of children is prioritized and in every part of education equal importance is given to moral and academic studies. Our responsibility is to find street children and send them to rehabilitation centers where they would receive better treatment. We can even send them to an orphanage where the children are provided with food, shelter and clothing with better medical care and education. We should not behave rudely towards them but should be kind-hearted so that they develop mentally and physically to further their standard of living. It is a source of great regret that street children lead a miserable life; there are many magnanimous people who have established different missionary schools, hospitals and correctional centers for children. Doña Teresa was one of the personalities who had established more than four thousand centers. In these centers, children from different countries and from all corners of the world, including from other parts outside of India, are educated and learn good behaviors. They are promoted and illustrated in the field of moral and spiritual education.

There is no denying the fact, you lose money and you lose nothing. Health is lost, something is lost. But character is lost, then everything is lost. We must consider street children as our children and as such we must not neglect them in any case. In our current society, we must emphasize them to mold their moral character. Due to the fact, modern society is polluted by lack of proper guidance from parents and government. Our children are also being contaminated with the unequal educational system that prevails in our country late only street children.
